One hundred pictures of Mt. Fuji
4th year of Meiwa (1776)
Artist: Minsetsu Kawamura (Date of birth and death unknown)

Minsetsu Kawamura illustrated the scenery of Mt. Fuji from 100 views adding haikus to each. We can find similar illustrations in “100 Mt. Fuji views” by the famous “36 Mt. Fuji views” artist, Hokusai Katsushika. It is said that Hokusai got hints for his “100 Mt. Fuji views” from this “100 pictures of Mt. Fuji”. For example, the composition of Mt. Fuji under the bridge is almost the same in Hokusai’s famous picture. Minsetsu Kawamura is known to have been living in Katsushika, Edo but these masterpieces of “100 pictures of Mt. Fuji” are his only famous work and as for other writings or careers, nothing at all is known.
